A Sales-Focused Website Design 

The main objectives for this project were to produce a responsive website to improve user experience in order to increase sales, improve conversion rates and visitor growth. The client required an easy to use CMS with automatic image resizing. 

Our Grapes solution simplified the catalogue management for all the websites by enabling Sandhams to manage the catalogue directly from their central EPOS system, Vintner, which can automatically manage and maintain the catalogue.

Improving the User Experience

Improved product search capabilities were added and these can be used with filters in any combination eg. producer, region, varietal. This rarely returns no results which enhances the customer journey to purchase.  

A tasting notes feature offers a customer the option of recording their tasting notes either for private or public record (moderated), and provides a good source of further customer interaction with the site, driving SEO.

Continued relationships with customers are extremely valuable and are encouraged using email newsletters.The newsletters, managed by Mailchimp signup modules, give the opportunity to push promotional campaigns to subscribers to drive direct sales. Any customer, including new users can signup for the newsletter, making it a powerful marketing tool.

A Product Showcase

One of the main aims for the new website was to showcase the distinctive product range stocked in the shop. To achieve this we use several display tools and styles on the homepage, which are all designed to engage the visitor at different levels in the catalogue to encourage browsing and discovery. All are customisable and content can be updated easily by the site owner.
These include:
A bold customisable hero banner section, showcasing a particular producer and their products. Links directly to the relevant producer’s landing page for more information.
A strong category block link section, using refreshed visuals to highlight new categories such as Premium Gins. Each category has a landing page with continuity of visuals and more information in the header with the product listing.
A Favourite Wines carousel, featuring selected products and offers. Great for getting a particular wine or special offer right in front of the visitor on the homepage, and also presenting the diversity of Sandhams’ range.

Administrator Training

We provided website training to ensure that Sandhams were comfortable with maintaining the website.  It was not necessary for anyone to have prior technical knowledge or skills to be able to maintain the website. The training session also facilitated the first round of feedback on the website from the client.

Easy Administration with Drupal

Drupal made it easy to create a user-friendly authoring experience. Key administrative features added included an easy to use and intuitive admin area, with useful help notes. Automatic image resizing and optimisation when adding images to the site. Seamless WorldPay integration was implemented, complying with PCI and DDS Standards but styled to match Sandham’s branding.

Behind the scenes integration with existing Vintner EPOS systems is key to the performance of the system. New products are added to Vintner, then pushed to the website where the administrator then populates the product attributes with images and written content. Product data with price and stock updates are automatically updated hourly from Vintner. Orders are passed to Vintner in real time.

SEO tools

The site was optimised for search engines and included configurable meta descriptions on all public landing pages, including each product category e.g. countries, regions, wine styles etc. It also used a dynamic XHTML site map submitting any changes to Google and Bing once a day. The robots.txt file also references the XML site map.
